The following list of the ten tallest buildings ever demolished by Michael Aynsley, was originally released on BuzzBuzzHome.

Before passing the countdown, a warning: this list only includes buildings that were demolished on purpose by their owners. If it included all the large structures that are no longer standing, number one, two and four would be occupied by the three buildings of the World Trade Center tragically destroyed on September 11, 01.

Interesting fact
The block Ardmore Park buildings was a set of identical triplets. All three were in the exact same height and shared the exact same bland design.

8. Hennessy Centre, Hong Kong

Height 458 feet, 41 stories

Demolished :. 08 - because the building owner wanted to expand the mall that the Centre Hennessy shared his lot with

the building attraction, mostly concrete had a short life of 15 years. Probably because it was unattractive.

7. Grand Prince Hotel Akasaka, Tokyo

height: 463 feet, 39 floors
Done: 1982
Demolished: 2013 - as the New York Times explained, the hotel has been a victim commercial real estate whims in Tokyo, "where high value properties, changing design requirements and other factors have conspired to create a bull market for demolition"
Interestingly :.
The demolition of large Akasaka Prince Hotel in Tokyo was unique in that it did not include demolition balls or explosives. A crane was used to take all the beams, concrete and panel inside - gradually and floor. So for any observer who had the patience to stand and look at the week-long event, it would have appeared as if the building was disappearing. Fortunately, you do not have to put yourself through this kind of trouble. The building disassembly was documented with a video camera and the film was accelerated for your viewing pleasure. 6. The Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong

Height 465 feet, 31 stories
Completed : 1993
Demolished 09 - to make room for both need and more lucrative office space. The building was located on one of the most valuable commercial sites in Hong Kong

The hotel was packed for the Hong Kong 1997 British return to China, but occupancy fell to three percent six years later during the SARS epidemic.

5. City Investing Building, New York City

Height: 487 feet, 33 stories

Demolished :. 1968 - to make way for One Liberty Plaza

is the Investing City building was part of a group of buildings (which included the Singer building, Hudson Terminal and the Equitable building) which were among the largest in the world during the first part of the 20th century, which is part of the city of New York one of the most photographed scenes of the time.

4. One Meridian Plaza, Philadelphia

Height 492 feet, 38 stories
Done: 1972
Demolished 1999 - after suffering extensive damage a fire that broke out on the 22nd floor in 1991.

for eight years after the fire, a Meridian Plaza sits vacant and damaged in the center of Philadelphia's business district. The building was made in proceedings between the owners and the insurance company on how much insurers pay owners and how the demolition would proceed.

3. Deutsche Bank, New York City

Height 517 feet, 39 stories
Done: 1974
Demolished 2011 - the building of the Deutsche Bank substantial damage due to flying debris during the attacks of 11 September. It was eventually demolished to make way for Five World Trade Center

The building was designed by Shreve, Lamb and Harmon, the same architectural firm that designed the Empire State Building.

2. Morrison Hotel, Chicago

Height: 526 feet, 45 stories
Done: 1925
Demolished :. 1965 - to make way for the first construction National Bank (now Chase Tower)

The Morrison Hotel has was the first building in the world outside of New York for more than 40 floors.

for a very brief period, the Singer Building was the tallest building in the world until 109 when it was surpassed by the Metropolitan Life tower.
